From spring to late summer there are many wine festivals and 'Apero in The Vines' events to visit. An 'Apero' is when a local vineyard opens its doors for a concert with food and wine.
This approximately 12,000 inhabitants place, is just as Albi on the banks of the Tarn. In the 7th century founded the Benedictine abbey on this site which was dedicated to St-Michel. Gaillac long benefited from the trade of merchant shipping on the river.
Also, this region was one of the areas where the first winemakers of France lived. As early as the 6th century grapes were grown and the Benedictines of the abbey of St-Michel made the viticulture here since the 10th century flourishing.
Visit one of the many wine tastings on a Domaine in the region or taste the Gaillac wines at the campsite. We sell wines from Domaine de Larroque and Domaine de Terrisses.
The most visit worthy is the old city center with the Abby Saint-Michel which was built between the 11th and 14th centuries. In the church is a 14th century wooden statue of Mary. Next to the church, the 14th century tower "Pierre-de-Brens", the Parc de Foucaud and museum Naturelle worth to be visited.
On Friday there is in the old town a lively market. At a distance of 9 km from Gaillac is Lisle sur Tarn where a large square with arcades and a fountain provide an authentic French atmosphere. On the road from the site to Gaillac you pass chateau de Mauriac. Next to a beautiful 14th century castle is the owner of the castle painter and his works exhibited in the halls of the castle.
